Upgraded 911 System Launches in Cobb County, Metro Atlanta

A Major Leap Forward in Emergency Services Technology

Cobb County has become the largest in Metro Atlanta to launch a cutting-edge, AI-enhanced emergency communication platform, designed to revolutionize the way 911 calls are handled. The new system, powered by AT&T’s Emergency Services Internet-Protocol Network (ESInet) and Carbyne APEX, promises to transform the emergency response landscape by providing faster response times, more accurate information, and enhanced overall reliability.

Key Features of the New System

Real-time Translation for Non-English Speakers: AI-powered translation enables 911 operators to communicate more effectively with callers during emergencies, breaking down language barriers. • LIVE Video Footage from the Scene: First responders can now view live video footage from the scene, allowing them to better assess situations before arriving. • Enhanced Location Accuracy and Call Routing: The system provides more precise location details and improved call routing, ensuring that emergency services respond quickly and accurately. • Silent Chat Option for Sensitive Situations: This feature allows people to discreetly seek help without alerting an abuser.

“We’re excited about this major advancement,” said Desmond Harris of Cobb County 911. “The system provides quicker call delivery, more location details, and enhanced reliability during high call volumes or disasters.”

How the System Will Impact Emergency Responders

The upgraded system will have a significant impact on emergency responders, enabling them to respond faster, smarter, and more effectively. With real-time translation, first responders can now communicate more effectively with non-English speakers, reducing misunderstandings and ensuring that everyone receives timely help. The system’s ability to view live video footage from the scene will also enable responders to assess situations more accurately, deploy the right response, and provide more effective care. As Jamie Mumford, with Cobb County 911 noted, “Emergencies don’t wait for a translator,” and the new system will allow responders to respond immediately, without delay.

Collaboration and Innovation

The upgrade was the result of a collaborative effort between the Cobb County Department of Emergency Communications, Carbyne, and AT&T, demonstrating the power of innovation and partnership. The project aimed to provide the highest level of service for Cobb’s residents and visitors, and the new infrastructure is expected to increase the system’s resiliency, reducing the risk of communication disruptions during emergencies.

Why This Matters

The Cobb County Department of Emergency Communications is the largest in the U.S. to implement the Carbyne APEX platform, marking a significant leap forward in emergency services technology. The upgrades will have a direct impact on public safety, ensuring that residents and visitors receive the best possible emergency response.
