D.C. 911 call takers receive hundreds of thousands of calls every year, with many of them not being emergencies at all. In fact, according to the D.C. Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, the majority of 911 calls in the District of Columbia are not related to emergencies.

We had a shortage of medical personnel, which was impacting our ability to provide medical care in emergency situations. We had a shortage of administrative personnel, which was impacting our ability to provide administrative support to our officers and dispatchers.
